The Carolina Panthers have hired Ron Meeks as their new defensive coordinator.
Meeks spent the past seven seasons running the Indianapolis
Colts' defense. He replaces Mike Trgovac, who resigned last week
despite being offered a contract extension.
The 54-year-old Meeks will take over a defense that struggled at
the end of the season. Carolina allowed 30 or more points in six of
its last seven games, including in a 33-13 loss to Arizona in the
NFC divisional playoffs.
The move Monday leaves the Panthers with three openings on coach
John Fox's defensive staff.
