Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko stopped former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski with a right to the chin in the first round of the Affliction M-1 Global: "Day of Reckoning" mixed martial arts event Saturday night.
"I feel great," Emelianenko said. "I feel really good about
it. I want to thank God for my victory and thank everyone that was
behind me. I knew that Arlovski was prone to making mistakes and at
that moment I caught him. I really didn't think I would knock him
out, but it happened. You don't expect it to happen but it did."
Earlier in front of 13,228 fans at the Honda Center, Josh
Barnett stopped Gilbert Yvel in the third round in another
heavyweight bout, and light-heavyweight Renato Sobral choked
Thierry Sokoudjou into submission in the second round.
Also, middleweight Vitor Belfort stopped Matt Lindland at 37
seconds of the first round, and heavyweight Paul Buentello stopped
Kirill Sidelnikov in the third round.
