EL SEGUNDO, CA, Jan. 22, 2009 -- Brandon Heath led a balanced attack with a game-high 26 points as the Los Angeles D-Fenders snapped a seven-game losing streak with Thursday's 119-109 victory over the Reno Bighorns.
The D-Fenders (5-16), who remain behind the Anaheim Arsenal for last place in the West Division, broke the game open with late fourth-quarter surge. Ryan Forehan-Kelly and C.J. Giles each posted eight points in the final frame when Los Angeles outscored Reno by 12 (33-21).
Giles finished with 22 points for L.A., which connected on 11 3-pointers and outscored Reno by 10 in the paint. Joe Crawford contributed 21 points, while Gabriel Hughes posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The game was tied after both the first and second quarters, while the D-Fenders controlled just a two-point advantage after three.
Antonio Meeking led five Bighorns in double figures with 22 points, while Patrick Ewing Jr. scored 21 and Damone Brown, who also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out eight assists, tallied 19. Reno (8-15) had recently won seven of eight before losing its last two.
The D-Fenders will look to build off this impressive effort when they visit the Arsenal on Saturday, while the Bighorns will seek a rebound performance when they clash with the Bakersfield Jam that same day.
