Former Wolf Pack pitcher Chad Qualls has signed a one-year contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The deal is worth $2.54 million dollars.

Qualls, 30, became Arizona's closer last season, finishing with nine saves and a career-low 2.81 E.R.A. He also struck out 71 in 73.2 innings pitched. Qualls finished the season with a 4-8 overall record.

He had filed for salary arbitration, but the two sides agreed to the deal before arbitration hearings were to begin. Qualls made $1.3 million dollars last season.

Qualls is also one of just twenty-one major-league pitchers on the "provisional" roster for Team USA. The twenty-one players will be whittled down to a final thirteen for the team's official roster.

Team USA will compete in the World Baseball Classic beginning on March 5th in Tokyo.
