Roethlisberger Suffered Spinal Contusion

Ben Roethlisberger suffered a spinal injury two weeks ago in the Steelers win over the Browns.

The injury was initially ruled a concussion, but the QB actually sustained a spinal contusion that left him temporarily without any feeling in his arms and hands.

Roethlisberger had his facemask removed, and was placed on a spinal board before they carted him off the field and took him to an area hospital. He quickly regained the feeling in his arms and was released.

Roethlisberger passed all the follow-up tests and played in the Steelers 35-24 win over the Chargers in the AFC divisional playoffs.

The injury was the result of Roethlisberger being sandwiched between two defenders, causing his head to slam into the ground. A contusion is usually caused by a sudden and violent jolt to the spinal cord.

He is cleared to play this weekend in the AFC title game against the Ravens. Winner goes to the Super Bowl.
