Nevada Ski Team 6th at Seawolf Invitational

The Nevada skiing team wrapped up its week of competition in Alaska with a sixth-place finish at the Seawolf Invitational and a seventh-place showing at the Alaska-Anchorage Invitational. Both events were held concurrently with the U.S. National Cross Country Championships.

Nevada ended up sixth at the Seawolf Invitational with 383.5 team points. Alaska-Anchorage won its own Seawolf Invitational, turning in a score of 554 and besting second-place Utah by 16 points (538). Rounding out the top five teams were Colorado (514.5), Denver (506.5) and New Mexico (472.5).

The Wolf Pack was seventh at the Alaska-Anchorage Invitational with 350 points. Colorado won the UAA Invitational with 542 points followed by New Mexico (529.5), Alaska-Anchorage (529), Utah (492.5) and Denver (481) in the top five.

For Nevada, junior Kristin Ronnestrand and senior Chelsea Holmes were the team's top Nordic finishers. Ronnestrand took 11th in the women's 10K classical race on Saturday, while Holmes ended up 12th in the women's 10K skate on Sunday with a time of 33:56.5. In the men's races, senior Lutz Preussler led the Wolf Pack with 19th place showings in the men's 15K classic (44:34.7) on Saturday and the 15K skate (42:15.9) on Sunday.

In Saturday's alpine races, sophomore Greg Berger-Sabbatel led the Wolf Pack with a 18th place finish in the men's slalom (1:35.43), while sophomore Amy Harris took 19th in the women's giant slalom (1:43.47).

The Alaska-Anchorage Invitational wrapped up with a pair of alpine races on Sunday. Sophomores Kristina Palovicova (1:50.34) and Amy Harris (1:50.52) were Nevada's top finishers in the women's giant slalom with 14th and 15th place finishes, while Berger-Sabbetel led the team with an 18th place finish in the men's slalom (1:39.71).

The Wolf Pack returns to action Jan. 14-17 at the Colorado Invitational in Eldora and Aspen, Colo.
