The Reno Bighorns acquired guard Gerry McNamara out of Syracuse University on Friday.
“Gerry is a tough competitor who is teetering on being an NBA player,” said Coach Jay Humphries. “He’s excited about being here and I know he’ll do a great job for us as a guard.”
McNamara most recently played for the Utah Jazz, 08-09 pre season. In 2007, he played for the Philadelphia 76ers.
In 2006, Orlando Magic acquired him for the 2006 Pepsi Pro Summer League, then he joined the NBA D-League’s Bakersfield Jam in December, 2006. In 41 games for the Jam, McNamara averaged 11.0 points and 5.2 assists and 2.1 assists, before being named to the 2007 NBA D-League All-Star team in Las Vegas.
A four year starter at Syracuse (135 straight games), McNamara was a member of the 2003 National Champion Orangemen, and earned MVP honors in the 2006 Big East Tournament. McNamara averaged 15.5 points and 4.8 assists during his NCAA career.
McNamara is slated to join the Bighorns on Saturday, where they will play the Bakersfield Jam at the Reno Events Center. Tip off is set for 7:05 pm PST.
