All-time home run leader Barry Bonds recently underwent hip surgery, according to a Thursday report in the San Francisco Chronicle.
The report attributed the news to "a source familiar with the operation," who said that it was conducted by Dr. Arthur Ting, who performed multiple knee surgeries on Bonds.
Bonds hasn't played since the end of the 2007 season when the Giants declined to offer him a contract extension.
The 44-year-old is scheduled to stand trial on March 2 to face charges of lying to a grand jury about his alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs.
