Armon Johnson WAC Player of the Week

University of Nevada guard Armon Johnson has been named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 15-21. The honor marks the first career WAC Player of the Week award for Johnson.

Johnson, a sophomore from Reno, Nevada (Hug HS), helped Nevada to a 1-1 record last week. Johnson led the Wolf Pack to an 87-58 victory against Arkansas-Pine Bluff with 17 points and seven assists without a turnover. He followed up that performance with a career-high 33.5 rebound effort on the road against California. Johnson scored 27 of his 33 points in the second half, including 13 in the final 2:26 to keep the game close down the stretch.

On the week, Johnson averaged 25.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists.

Other nominees included: Boise State sophomore Paul Noonan scored 10 points with five threes in a win against Cal State Bakersfield. Fresno State freshman Paul George averaged 15.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in a pair of wins over Northern Colorado and South Carolina Upstate. Hawai'i junior Petras Balocka tied a career high with 21 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Chicago State. San Jose State senior Tim Pierce scored a career-high 26 points with six threes in a win over Northern Colorado. Utah State junior Jared Quayle averaged 17.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in two road wins against Southern Utah and Idaho State.
