Brett Leibowitz of Las Vegas, a senior at The Meadows School, has won the Wendy’s High School Heisman award for male student athletes.

The national award recognizes excellence in academics, athletics and community leadership. Leibowitz, 18, was chosen from among five other national finalists honored in a ceremony Friday in New York.

He played offensive guard and defensive end on the team that took home the Class 2A state championship this year. Leibowitz also is starting center on the Mustang’s basketball team.

Kathy Kroeger, a cross country runner from Franklin, Tenn., took home the award for female athletes.
