Estes Becomes Free Agent

Shawn Estes is back on the market. The Douglas High School graduate cleared waivers on Monday and elected to become a free agent.

Estes pitched in 9 games with the Padres this season, going 2-3 overall with a 4.74 E.R.A.

It was an incredible comeback for Estes. He missed all of 2007 after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He began the year in the Minors, but pitched effectively in the majors after being called-up by San Diego.

He also missed over two months during the middle of this season after he fractured the thumb on his pitching hand.

Estes has gone 101-93 during his 12 year career.
