Nevada Basketball Lands 6-foot-10 Power Forward

RENO, Nev. (AP) - Nevada's basketball team has landed its first
recruit for the 2009 seasons -- a 6-foot-10 power forward from
Vancouver, Washington.

Steven Bjornstad averaged 18 points, 11 rebounds and four
blocked shots a game as a junior last season at Columbia River High
School.

He had scheduled two more official visits to Santa Clara and St.
Mary's the next two weeks. But his coach says he decided yesterday
to cancel those and give a verbal commitment to the Wolf Pack.

Coach David Long says Bjornstad would have received offers from
Pac-10 schools had he waited until the spring signing period before
choosing a school. He says he thinks he can make an immediate
impact on Nevada as a true freshman because of his shot-blocking
and strong defense.
