With just one more performance left before Saturday night’s finals at the Reno Rodeo, contestants are finding their way back to town or staying and hoping to win a portion of the prize money here.
With over $500,000 up for grabs, the Reno Rodeo is one of the richest and most prestigious in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. Bobby Mote, from Culver, Ore., has two gold buckles as the world champion bareback rider, he has yet to win a pair of Reno Rodeo spurs.
He had an outstanding ride on Big Bend Rodeo’s Fred during the seventh performance on Thursday night. The 86-point effort was the best of the first round of competition. Mote earned $3,407 so far. He will ride his second horse here on Friday night. He already has competed in the team roping, but didn’t have the success there that he had hoped for.
Billy Etbauer’s 89-point score held up to win the first round of saddle bronc riding. He earned $3,496 for the ride on Flying Five Rodeo’s Spring Blues. He will now be waiting to see what happens here in the second round of competition on Friday night to see where he qualifies for Saturday’s finals.
The eighth performance of the Reno Rodeo starts at 7 p.m. PT on Friday. At the conclusion of that performance, the first round winners in bull riding and second round winners in all of the other events will be determined. Also, the top 12 who qualify for the finals will be announced.
