The Reno-Tahoe Open should learn in the next few days whether new television deals the P-G-A Tour announced today will mean a date change or worse for the Reno stop in 2007.
Tournament Director Jim Kline says things look good for the
eight annual event this August 24th through 27th at Montreux Golf
and Country Club and he expects the tournament to continue in 2007.
But he says changes planned in the tour schedule next year could
affect Reno.
The World Golf Championship that traditionally has been played
the week after the PGA Championship opposite the Reno-Tahoe Open.
But the W-G-C event with the top golfers in the world is moving to
the week before the PGA's final major in early August.
Kline says that may mean the Reno-Tahoe Open moves to that week
as well. He says they also might move to September opposite the
President's Cup.
Kline says it is possible the tournament will be gone
altogether, but he thinks that is unlikely. He says the one thing
he knows at this point is 2006 is shaping up to be a good year.
