STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) - A star athlete at a Stockton high school won't face charges in the beating of a crosstown rival.

Prosecutors said Friday that they couldn't identify 19-year-old Dewitt Stuckey as the person who delivered the blows as 18-year-old Ray Guyton lay on the ground at a local hamburger stand.

Guyton was knocked unconscious and suffered a cracked shoulder,
cuts to his face and a broken jaw during a late-night brawl May 23.

Stuckey is a football star at Lincoln High School. He plans to attend the University of Oregon this fall on a football scholarship. He said he got involved in the incident because someone hit him first.

Five juveniles are still facing charges in the case.
