Wolf Pack Wrap Up Spring Camp

Sophomore quarterback Colin Kaepernick ran for a pair of long scores as the Nevada football team wrapped up spring practice with its annual Silver & Blue Scrimmage Saturday morning at Mackay Stadium.

Kaepernick scored Nevada’s first touchdown of the afternoon with a 65-yard run into the end zone and followed it up with a 52-yard touchdown run just after halftime. Redshirt freshman running back Lampford Mark also put the ball in the end zone with a four-yard run eight plays later. Junior Brandon Fragger ran 15 yards for Nevada’s final touchdown near the end of the scrimmage.

Kaepernick finished with 146 yards rushing on just five carries with the two scores, while Mark carried the ball four times for 65 yards and one touchdown. Sophomore Vai Taua chipped in with 57 yards on five carries.

On defense, the Wolf Pack intercepted three passes and turned in three sacks on the afternoon. The defense also made several nice pass deflections in the scrimmage. Freshman linebacker Joe Easter returned one of the interceptions 43 yards for the defense’s lone score of the day, while junior Jonathon Amaya and sophomore Kevin Grimes each picked off passes for the Wolf Pack. Grimes returned his pick 24 yards before having the play whistled dead.

Sophomore Dontay Moch and redshirt freshmen Zack Madonick and James-Michael Johnson each turned in sacks for Nevada on Saturday.

The Silver & Blue Scrimmage was preceded by a tent sale of Wolf Pack merchandise and followed by an Easter egg hunt for kids on the field at Mackay Stadium, while Bully’s Sports Bar and Grill provided free lunch for the fans in attendance.

The Wolf Pack opens the 2008 football season at home on Saturday, Aug. 30, playing host to the Grambling State Tigers at Mackay Stadium.
