The University of Nevada men’s basketball team will take on the University of Houston on Tuesday, March 18 at Lawlor Events Center in the inaugural College Basketball Invitational (CBI).
Tuesday’s game will tip off at 6 p.m. Pacific Time and will be televised nationally by Fox College Sports.
“We’re excited to be a part of the College Basketball Invitational,” fourth-year Nevada head coach Mark Fox said. “We’re looking forward to playing Houston. They are athletic and talented and extremely well-coached by Coach (Tom) Penders.”
In its first year, the CBI is a 16-team, single-elimination tournament that runs from Tuesday, March 18 through Friday, April 4. Games will be played at on-campus sites, while the championship series is a best-of-three with the higher-seeded team playing at home in the first game and, if necessary, the third. The first round is scheduled for March 18-19, while the Championship Series will be March 31, April 2 and April 4 (if necessary).
This year, the Houston Cougars turned in their best season since 1991-92, posting a 22-9 overall record and finishing third in Conference USA with an 11-5 mark.
The Wolf Pack turned in its fifth consecutive 20-win season with a 21-11 mark and earned a share of its fifth consecutive Western Athletic Conference championship with a 12-4 league record.
