Kemp Picks Up Two More Honors

Nevada senior guard Marcelus Kemp has been named to the all-district first teams by both the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the United States Basketball Writers Association.

Kemp is one of five players on the NABC’s first team from District 13, joining BYU’s Trent Plaisted and Lee Cummard, New Mexico’s J.R. Giddens and Boise State’s Reggie Larry. He was one of nine selections by the USBWA in District VIII, joining fellow conference honorees Larry, Jaycee Carroll of Utah State and Justin Hawkins of New Mexico State. Last season, Nick Fazekas named named to both all-district teams. A total of 150 student-athletes from 15 districts were honored by the NABC, while the USBWA honored 90 from nine regions.

A two-time first-team All-Western Athletic Conference selection, Kemp leads the Wolf Pack and ranks second in the WAC and 36th in the NCAA in scoring this season at 20.1 points per game. He ranks second on the Nevada career scoring list with 1,884 points and has set the school career record with 219 three-pointers made.

Kemp and the five-time WAC regular-season champion Wolf Pack open play in the 2008 WAC Tournament on Thursday, March 13 in Las Cruces, N.M. Second-seeded Nevada will take on seventh-seeded Fresno State in the quarterfinals at 6 p.m. Mountain (5 p.m. Pacific).
