Steve Ranson, sports editor at the Lahontan Valley News and Fallon Eagle Standard, has been named the new editor of the northern Nevada newspaper, publisher Keven Todd said Wednesday.
Ranson will replace Josh Johnson, who has accepted a position at a newspaper in Eau Claire, Wis., Todd said.
Ranson will assume his new role on March 17.
Ranson became the sports editor four years ago after working the previous 17 years as a part-time sports writer for the newspaper, which is owned by the Swift Newspapers Inc. group based in Reno.
"I have spent more than 20 years in Fallon and feel excited to keep a pulse on this community for news," said Ranson, a former educator who was named Churchill County Teacher of the Year in 1995.
Ranson has worked as a producer, newscaster and sports anchor at KCRL-TV in Reno (now KRNV), assistant public information officer for the Wyoming Fish and Game Department and as a sports and feature writer at the Wells (Nev.) Progress.
"While we hate to lose a great asset in Josh, he's making a move for his career and his young family," Todd said. "I'm thrilled that we'll be able to tap Steve's broad background and deep roots in the community to make this a smooth transition."
