RENO, Nev.—Down a run in the eighth, a run-scoring triple for Jake Elmore and a sacrifice fly by Josh Bell lifted the Reno Aces to a come-from-behind 11-10 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers in a wild game Saturday night at Aces Ballpark.
In a contest that saw five lead changes, five errors and seven unearned runs, the Aces relinquished a late lead in the eighth, only to recapture it in the home half of the frame. Things would stay interesting in the ninth, as Reno closer Jonathan Albaladejo worked around a bases-loaded situation to preserve the lead and an Aces victory.
Randy Ruiz hit his league-leading eighth home run Saturday, which also stretched his hitting streak to 15 games. Elmore, Adam Eaton and David Winfree added two-hit efforts for Reno, while Elmore, Bell and Ruiz drove in two runs apiece.
The win went to Aces reliever Victor Capellan (2-0) for the second-straight night, while Albaladejo nailed down his fourth save. Reno starter Chris Jakubauskas allowed six runs over 5.1 frames, but just one run was earned.
The loss fell to Rainiers reliever Chance Ruffin (0-3), who surrendered the tying and go-ahead runs in the eighth.
The Aces and Rainiers hit the third leg of this four-game set on Sunday afternoon at Aces Ballpark. RHP Barry Enright (3-1, 1.99 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Tacoma will counter with LHP Anthony Vasquez (3-1, 5.34 ERA). First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. PT, and it will be another Renown Children’s Hospital Family Funday, featuring Baseball Bingo. Additionally, fans are encouraged to donate their used baseball mitts to the Reno and Carson City Challengers at the ballpark as part of the Aces’ first Glove Drive of the season.
