HBO To Turn Barry Bonds Steroids Book Into Movie

HBO Films is planning to make a movie out of the best selling book about Barry Bonds' alleged steroid use and the federal government's probe.

One of the authors of the book "Game of Shadows," San Francisco Chronicle reporter Lance Williams, says Ron Shelton has been tapped to direct the film. John Norville is slotted as a prospective co-writer.

Much of the book was based on secret grand jury testimony of Bonds and other famous athletes. The information was leaked to the book's authors by a disbarred attorney.

The attorney has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for denying under oath he was the source of the information.

The book tells how Bonds allegedly began using steroids in 1999 after becoming jealous of Mark McGwire when he set major League Baseball's single season home run mark the previous season.
