IRVINE, Calif. (AP) - JaVale McGee scored 20 points and Brandon Fields added 16 to lead Nevada to a 77-68 victory over UC Irvine Tuesday night.
Demarshay Johnson and Marcelus Kemp added 12 points apiece as Nevada (1-1) held a 43-20 edge in rebounds, including 14 on the offensive end.
Kevin Bland led UC Irvine (1-1) with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Adam Rodenberg and Patrick Sanders chipped in 11 points each and Michael Hunter had 10.
The Wolf Pack shot 56.9 percent for the game, while UC Irvine hit a 41.9 percent clip.
Nevada turned a two-point halftime lead into a 16-point cushion after opening the second half with an 18-2 run. McGee's jumper gave the Wolf Pack a 54-36 lead with 11:37 remaining.
Bland attempted to rally UCI with 15 of his 17 points in the second half, knocking down two free throws with 2:15 left to pull the Anteaters within 10, 73-63.
Chad DeCasas made one of two free throws on UCI's next possession to cut the lead to nine, but that was as close as UCI would get.
