For the first time since it debuted on the PGA Tour in 1999, next summer's Reno-Tahoe Open will have a title sponsor under a $1.6 million, two-year deal announced Tuesday with a developer based in Arizona and Missouri.
RED Development LLC, co-headquartered in Scottsdale and Kansas
City, will pay $800,000 each of the next two years for the rights to name the tournament at Montreux Golf & Country Club the Legends
Reno-Tahoe Open, tourney and company officials said.
The name comes from a $1.2 billion shopping and entertainment center the company is currently building called The Legends at Sparks Marina in neighboring Sparks, similar to The Legends at Village West it opened in 2006 in Kansas City, Kan.
