RENO, Nev.—Adam Eaton added three more hits to his Minor League lead, but the Sacramento River Cats topped the Reno Aces 11-8 in the series finale Tuesday afternoon at Aces Ballpark.
Reno scored in five different innings Tuesday, including a three-run fifth inning, but the River Cats had an answer every step of the way, escaping with the victory and a series split.
Eaton singled twice, tripled and scored a run, bringing his overall season hit total to 162 and his overall season run total to 116. Since 2005, no other Minor Leaguer had as many in either category.
Bryan Henry kept the Aces in the game in a spot-start effort, scattering two runs on five hits over four innings. The loss fell to Mike DeMark (3-4), who surrendered five runs—just two earned—over 1.2 frames.
The win went to River Cats reliever Rich Thompson (2-2), who tossed 2.2 scoreless frames. Pedro Figueroa came on in the ninth to collect his first save of the season.
In addition to Eaton’s three hits, Josh Bell and Mike Jacobs added two hits and two RBIs apiece for Reno.
The Aces now begin an eight-game road trip through the American Conference, beginning with a four-game set against the Omaha Storm Chasers. In Wednesday’s opener, LHP Zach Kroenke (5-2, 5.28 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Omaha will counter with LHP Doug Davis (5-2, 3.52 ERA). First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. PT at Werner Park, and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports 630 AM or by visiting RenoAces.com.
The Aces return to Downtown Reno on Aug. 10 to kick-off an eight-game homestand. Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
