RENO, Nev. (AP) - More than 150 people who took batting practice at Aces Ballpark over the weekend helped the Reno Aces raise nearly $3,700 for victims and family members affected by the Sparks Middle School shooting.

Aces CEO Eric Edelstein says they were overwhelmed by the response at Saturday's "Swing for Sparks" event when 156 fans took swings at the downtown ballpark for a minimum donation of $1 a pitch.

Edlestein said many took advantage of the offer to pay $20 for 25 pitches.

All the money will go to the Sparks Middle School Compassion Fund set up by the Community Foundation of Western Nevada.

A 12-year-old boy fatally shot a math teacher and wounded two classmates before turning the gun on himself in the schoolyard on Oct. 21.
