RENO, Nev.—The Memphis Redbirds capitalized on three Aces errors to score 10 runs in the fifth inning Thursday night, building a lead that was never threatened in an 11-0 victory over Reno at Aces Ballpark.

Aces starter Tom Layne held Memphis to just one run over the game’s first four innings. In the fifth, though, the Redbirds sent 14 men to the plate, recorded eight hits and saw Reno commit three errors en route to a 10-run frame. The loss marked the first time Reno has been shutout since June 19, 2010 and the first time the club has been shutout at Aces Ballpark since April 24, 2010.

Layne (8-6) took the loss, surrendering nine runs—five earned—on eight hits over 4.1 innings of work. He walked four and struck out two. Out of the Reno bullpen, Brian Stokes surrendered two runs in 2.2 innings in his Aces debut, while Jeff Bennett struck out three in two scoreless innings.

The win went to Memphis starter Maikel Cleto (2-2), scattering no runs and four hits over six frames.

At the plate for Reno, Ryan Langerhans continued his hot stretch since joining the Aces roster with a single and a double, while Angel Berroa finished 1-for-3, recording at least one hit for the ninth time in his last 10 games.

The series continues on Friday night at Aces Ballpark. LHP Zach Kroenke (7-2, 6.87 ERA) toes the slab for the Reno, while Memphis will counter with RHP Brian Broderick (5-3, 4.80 ERA). First pitch is 7:05 p.m. PT.
