WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif.— Collin Cowgill played the hero in game one with a go-ahead single in the final frame for a 3-2 Aces win, but Sacramento’s Kevin Kouzmanoff answered with a walk-off home run in a 5-4 nightcap victory for the River Cats Saturday night at Raley Field.

In the opener, Reno starter Wade Miley held the River Cats to just 2 earned runs over 5.1 innings before Kam Mickolio came on and retired Sacramento’s final five batters. Cowgill’s lone hit of the game snapped a 2-2 tie and pushed Reno to the victory. Mickolio (1-2) earned his first win of the season, striking out three and stranding two inherited runners in the sixth. Sacramento’s Fernando Cabrera (3-3) took the loss.

In game two, Reno erased a one-run deficit in the sixth on an infield single by Robby Hammock. With one out and a runner on third in the frame, Mark Hallberg flew out to right and Andy Tracy was thrown out at the plate trying to tag up from third—prompting an argument and subsequent ejection of Aces skipper Brett Butler. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Kouzmanoff hit a 1-0 Jordan Norberto (6-2) offering over the wall in centerfield for the game winner. River Cats reliever Trystan Magnuson (4-2) earned the win.

The Pacific North leading Aces and Pacific South leading River Cats meet again on Sunday afternoon at Raley Field. RHP Barry Enright (8-2, 4.29 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Sacramento will counter with LHP Lenny DiNardo (3-5, 6.99 ERA). First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. PT
