RENO, Nev.— Konrad Schmidt and Tyler Kuhn homered for the Aces Sunday afternoon, but a four-run Fresno fifth inning pushed the Grizzlies to a 6-3 victory over Reno in the series finale at Aces Ballpark.
Kuhn’s solo homer in the third put the Aces on the scoreboard first, but the lead wouldn’t last long. Fresno scored the game’s next five runs to collect the win and a 3-2 series victory.
Aces starter Zach Kroenke (6-5) took the loss, surrendering five runs on eight hits over 5.0 innings. Three Reno relievers combined to hold the Grizzlies to just a run over the game’s final four frames.
The win went to Fresno starter and former Aces pitcher Yusmeiro Petit (7-6), who scattered two runs with seven strikeouts over 7.0 innings of work.
After Guillermo Mota allowed a run in the eighth, Heath Hembree came on in the ninth and registered his 14th save.
At the plate for Reno, Kuhn finished with a homer and a bunt single. Schmidt continued his torrid stretch, collecting three more hits.
The Aces and Grizzlies will now begin a new four-game series at Chukchansi Park in Fresno. RHP Brett Tomko (0-0, No ERA) makes his Aces debut Monday, while the Grizzlies counter with LHP Jason Stevenson (5-7, 6.45 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports 630 AM or by visiting RenoAces.com.
