SALT LAKE CITY — The Reno Aces scored the first four runs of the game but it wasn’t enough, as the Salt Lake Bees came back to win, 6-5 at Smith’s Ballpark Saturday night.
The loss was Reno’s fourth in a row, their longest losing streak since July 30-Aug. 2, 2013.
Mike Jacobs and Andy Marte opened the second inning with back-to-back singles, and Jacobs scored on a Bobby Wilson single two batters later. After the Aces loaded the bases, Didi Gregorius and Aaron Cunningham each recorded an RBI when they reached on consecutive hit by pitches.
Marte pushed the lead to four in the third inning with a solo home run, his second of the season.
Aces starter Zeke Spruill got into trouble in the bottom of the frame when he allowed a leadoff walk and then a home run to Jimmy Swift. The Bees took the lead with solo home runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings.
Jacobs answered with a solo home run to right field in the top of the eighth to tie the game at five, but the tie didn’t last long.
After Brennen Boesch reached on a single to right, Roberto Lopez drove him home on a pop up single to center field. Boesch, who had been running on the pitch, scored all the way from first. It was the first run Evan Marshall has allowed all season, after he opened the year with 15.2 scoreless innings coming into the game.
Jacobs and Marte each finished the game 2-for-4 with a home run.
The Aces will look to snap their losing streak tomorrow night in game three of the four-game series in Salt Lake. LHP Randy Wolf (3-1, 3.63) looks for his fourth-straight win for Reno, and the Bees will turn to LHP Justin Thomas (1-2, 5.86).
