Spruill will join the Diamondbacks in New York as the 26th man on the Arizona roster. He will start game two of the Diamondbacks’ doubleheader today against the Mets.

Spruill is 2-1 with a 4.72 ERA in 12 appearances with the Aces, including five starts. Spruill began the season in the bullpen and was inserted into the rotation in late April. In his last two starts, he’s 2-0 over 13 1/3 innings and has allowed only two unearned runs with nine strikeouts.

The right-hander was 0-2 with a 5.56 ERA in six games with the Diamondbacks in 2013. Spruill is the fifth Aces player to get called up this season.

In a corresponding move, right-hander Justin Van Grouw has been transferred from Extended Spring Training to Reno and will join the Aces in Albuquerque. Van Grouw signed with Arizona as a non-drafted free agent and began his professional career last year. In 18 games between the AZL D-backs and the Missoula Osprey of the Pioneer League, Van Grouw was 3-2 with a 4.23 ERA.
