RENO, Nev.— The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today that Chris Owings will join the Reno Aces on a Major League Rehab assignment.

Owings was named the 2013 Pacific Coast League Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year, along with the D-backs Minor League Player of the Year.

A supplemental first-round selection (41st overall) by the Diamondbacks in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, Owings played 125 games for the Aces in 2013. He hit .330 (180-for-546) with 104 runs scored, 81 RBI, 31 doubles, 12 home runs, 8 triples and 20 stolen bases.

Owings finished among PCL leaders in hits (1st), runs scored (1st), total bases (1st – 263), average (2nd), triples (T-8th), RBI (T-8th) and doubles (T-10th). He became the first player in Aces’ history to record three straight months with at least 40 hits (April – June).

He participated in the MLB All-Star Futures Game at Citi Field in New York and was named to the PCL mid-and postseason All-Star Team.

Owings was placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 26 with a left shoulder strain. He’s hitting .277 (66-for-238) with 15 doubles, 6 home runs, 5 triples and 21 RBI in 72 games for Arizona in 2014. He was among NL rookies in several offensive categories at the time of injury.
