RENO, Nev.— A ballpark record 9,580 fans saw the Aces roar back from an early deficit Sunday night, but Reno couldn’t hold on to a slim one-run lead, dropping an 11-9 decision to the Salt Lake Bees in the series finale at Aces Ballpark.

Aces starter Armando Galarraga (0-2)—making his first start since spending nearly three weeks on the Disabled List—took the loss, surrendering five runs in the first inning. Reno charged back with a six-run third inning, capped by a go-ahead three-run home run by Cole Gillespie. But the Bees would answer with four runs over the game’s next two frames and never trail again.

Reno used a two-run home run off the bat of Lucas May in the sixth, and tacked on another run on an Evan Frey RBI groundout in the eighth, but Bees closer Kevin Jepsen slammed the door in the ninth, earning his sixth save of the season and giving Salt Lake a series split.

Galarraga took the loss, surrendering eight runs on five hits over 3.1 innings of work in a 70-pitch effort. Out of the Reno bullpen, Derek Eitel worked 3.2 frames in his Triple-A debut, allowing three runs on three hits, before handing the ball to Jordan Norberto for two scoreless innings.

Salt Lake starter Jerome Williams (3-0) earned the win, despite allowing eight earned runs on 11 hits over 5.2 innings. After Jeremy Berg and Horacio Ramirez picked up holds, Jepsen struck out two and allowed just one hit in 1.1 innings to earn the save.

Cody Ransom finished 2-for-4 with an RBI for Reno, while Gillespie and May combined to drive in five runs for the Aces.

The Aces now hit the road for seven-straight before the All-Star Break, beginning with a three-game set against the Tucson Padres. In Monday’s Independence Day opener, LHP Wade Miley (0-0, No ERA) makes his Triple-A debut for the Aces. The Padres will counter with LHP Pedro Hernandez (2-0, 4.91 ERA). First pitch from Kino Stadium is set for 7 p.m. PT.
