ROUND ROCK, Texas—Reno Aces infielder Ryan Wheeler has been named Pacific Coast League Player of the Week, the league office announced today.

In his first season at the Triple-A level, Wheeler has sparked Reno’s recent surge in the standings, including a four-game sweep of first-place Salt Lake.

In five games this week, Wheeler batted .550 (11x20) with four multi-hit efforts, two home runs, and five runs scored. He led the PCL with 12 RBIs this week and ranked second with a 1.050 slugging percentage.

Since April 19, the Torrance, Calif., native has raised his batting average 126 points. Wheeler has hit safely in 8-of-9 games over that span with three three-hit games and four two-hit games. In Sunday’s series finale at Spring Mobile Ballpark, Wheeler hit his first-career grand slam and recorded a career-high-tying five RBIs.

This honor marks the eighth PCL Player of the Week award in Aces franchise history. The club also has had two PCL Pitcher of the Week honors in its history.

Today, Wheeler was joined by and Heath Hembree of the Fresno Grizzlies, who was named PCL Pitcher of the Week.

Reno returns home tonight to kick-off an eight-game homestand, beginning with a four-game set against the Las Vegas 51s in the resumption of the Silver State Diamond Challenge. In tonight’s opener, LHP Tom Layne (0-2, 9.00 ERA) toes the slab for Reno, while RHP Tim Redding (0-2, 11.70 ERA) counters for the 51s. First pitch from Aces Ballpark is set for 6:35 p.m. PT, and today will be another Om-Nom-Nomday presented by KTVN Channel 2 News, with ribs available for just $1.
