RENO, Nev.— Reno’s late-inning comeback bid fell just short Saturday night, as the Aces lost to the Sacramento River Cats 5-4 in front of 6,671 fans at Aces Ballpark.

Sacramento led 5-1 in the eighth when Reno roared back with two runs in the frame to cut the lead in half. After Jeff Bailey hit a leadoff triple, Brandon Allen's sacrifice fly cut the lead to 5-2. Drew Macias would add a run-scoring single later in the inning to cut the lead to two runs entering the ninth.

Reno continued the rally in the ninth, as Cole Gillespie lined an RBI-double off the left field wall to cut the lead to one. However, the Aces would strand Gillespie at second, suffering their second-straight defeat at the hands of the River Cats and fourth-straight overall.

Kris Benson (1-1), throwing in his second Major League rehab start for Reno, took the loss after allowing four runs—two earned— in four innings of work. The Aces received a solid performance from the bullpen, as Zach Kroenke, Jason Urquidez and Blaine Boyer combined to toss the final five innings, allowing just one run and striking out five.

Kyle Middleton (2-5) earned the win for Sacramento in relief of Lenny DiNardo, who started and hurled three scoreless frames. Henry Rodriguez notched his fifth save for the River Cats after thwarting the Aces ninth-inning rally.

Drew Macias led the Aces offensive attack, recording three hits in three at-bats, driving in two runs and stealing two bags. Doug Deeds and Ed Rogers each added a pair of hits for the Aces, who outhit Sacramento 11-9 in the loss.

Reno and Sacramento square off in Game 3 of this four-game set Sunday afternoon at Aces Ballpark. The Aces send RHP Matt Torra (3-2, 2.93 ERA) to the hill against River Cats LHP Travis Blackley (1-0, 1.29). First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. PT.

Tickets for all Aces games start at just $7, and are available by calling the Reno Aces box office at (775) 334-7000 or by visiting RenoAces.com. The brand-new Freight House District, located just outside Aces Ballpark, is open seven days a week, on both game days and non-game days.
