RENO, Nev.— Gerardo Parra homered to extend his hitting streak to nine games on Tuesday afternoon, but Reno’s offense would get nothing more, dropping a 6-1 decision to the Iowa Cubs in the series finale at Aces Ballpark.
Parra's fourth-inning home run was the only offense for Reno on the afternoon, as three Cubs pitchers held the Aces to just five hits. The Aces managed seven total runs during the four-game set, as they dropped their second series of the season. Reno mounted an eighth-inning rally, putting the tying run on deck with one out, but couldn't push across any runs in the frame.
Kevin Mulvey (0-3) took the loss for Reno, giving up 10 hits and four runs over six innings of work. Daniel Stange and T.J. Beam kept the game within reach over the final three frames, but the offense couldn't mount a comeback in Reno's series-ending loss.
Thomas Diamond (3-0) kept the Aces in check over six three-hit innings, with his lone blemish being the Parra homer. Jay Jackson and Brian Schlitter closed the door over the last three innings, allowing a combined two hits and striking out four.
Yunesky Sanches singled in the eighth after entering the game as a defensive replacement, and Ryan Roberts added his team-high-tying 13th double for Reno, which was outhit 14-5 by the Cubs.
The league enjoys an off day Wednesday before Reno heads to Round Rock and Albuquerque beginning Thursday evening. Reno will send Matt Torra (2-1, 2.83 ERA) to the hill against Round Rock RHP Josh Banks (3-3, 2.94 ERA). First pitch from Dell Diamond in Round Rock is set for 5:05 p.m. PT, and can be heard live in Reno on Fox Sports Radio 1450 AM or by visiting www.RenoAces.com.
The Aces return home Friday, May 28, for a 7:05 p.m. contest against Sacramento, which kicks off a four-game set against the River Cats.
Tickets for all Aces games start at just $7, and are available by calling the Reno Aces box office at (775) 334-7000 or by visiting RenoAces.com. The brand-new Freight House District, located just outside Aces Ballpark, is open seven days a week, on both game days and non-game days.
