PHOENIX - Former Wolf Pack pitcher Chad Qualls' struggles with the Diamondbacks continued on Wednesday night.
Qualls gave up three earned runs - including the go-ahead home run - and failed to get out of the ninth inning, taking the loss in Arizona's 9-4 setback to the Cardinals.
The game was tied at four when Colby Rausmus led off the inning with a solo home run.
Qualls (0-1) has blown three saves in five chances. His earned run average is 10.80.
``I worked my butt off to get healthy this year and it's just not paying of right now,'' he told the Associated Press. ``That's just the way baseball goes and I have to keep grinding it out and keep doing what I do everyday and I know it's going to turn around.''
