Former Aces OF Byrnes Designated For Assignment

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Arizona Diamondbacks have designated outfielder Eric Byrnes for assignment, meaning the team has 10 days to trade him, reassign him to the minors or release him.

The 33-year-old outfielder hit .279 with two home runs and nine RBI in a 16-game rehab stint with the Aces, last season.

Byrnes signed a three-year, $30 million extension in August 2007. He played in just 136 the past two seasons while hitting .218.
