LAS VEGAS (AP) - The top federal prosecutor in Nevada says the
parent company of a Las Vegas pharmacy is agreeing to pay $1
million to settle civil allegations that it spent almost six years
illegally distributing prescription drugs.
U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden said Tuesday that COFII Corp. is
also giving up federal Drug Enforcement Administration registration
for Lam's Pharmacy.
The company makes no admission of wrongdoing with the
settlement. The pharmacy west of downtown Las Vegas will continue
to operate, but under a new name and new management.
Bogden says that during the last year, federal criminal charges
have been filed in Nevada against three doctors, a pharmacist and
about 70 other people in an effort to stem the unlawful
distribution of prescription painkillers.
