LAS VEGAS (AP) - Police say a Las Vegas detective wounded in a
shootout with a murder suspect this week has been released from the
hospital and is recovering at home.
The suspect, Jason Baires, was killed in the early Wednesday firefight. Greg Theobald, a 12-year department veteran, was wounded
in the hip or lower torso.
Baires was a suspect in the death of his mother's boyfriend, Rodolfo Velasco-Bayardo. Investigators reported finding Velasco-Bayardo's body Tuesday evening in a bedroom of a bloody northwest Las Vegas home where they also found guns, machetes and an unfinished hole in the back yard.
A man seen buying a chain saw, trash bags, cleaning supplies and
a large ice chest with Baires has been arrested and is being held at the Clark County jail pending a court appearance on a felony accessory to murder charge.
