LAS VEGAS (AP) - The family of a 47-year-old man killed when a
Las Vegas police cruiser slammed into his vehicle in 2007 claims
investigators conspired to wrongfully blame the dead man for the
crash.
Relatives of Raymond Yeghiazarian are seeking more than $7 million in damages in a federal civil rights lawsuit.
Attorney Marc Saggese represents the family.
He says Las Vegas police slanted the investigation by refusing
to release 911 calls implicating Officer Jared Wicks, tampering
with the police cruiser's "black box" data recorder and failing
to interview witnesses who blamed the officer.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Saggese also criticizes police officials for appealing a state court jury award last August to the family, even after a judge reduced the $2.2 million figure to $250,000.
