LOCKPORT, N.Y. (AP) - A Las Vegas resident picked up at the U.S.-Canadian border on securities fraud charges is set for an extradition hearing in an upstate New York courtroom.
Mark Jones was indicted in Nevada in 2010 on charges he accepted
investments totaling $130,000 on behalf of bogus charities purporting to help Native Americans. The Buffalo News reported last week that Jones was supposed to go on trial last November but never showed up.
He was arrested Jan. 8 at the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls as he returned to the United States from Canada. He'll be represented Monday by a public defender, who's not immediately available for comment.
Media outlets have reported Jones has portrayed himself as a billionaire interested in converting a decommissioned British aircraft carrier into a floating hospital.
