LAS VEGAS (AP) - Federal officials say entry fees will go up May 1 at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area outside Las Vegas, and bicyclists and pedestrians will for the first time have to pay.
The federal Bureau of Land Management says vehicle day passes will increase from $5 to $7 for entry to the 13-mile scenic drive. Bicyclists and pedestrians will be charged $3.
BLM officials say it's the first fee increase in 10 years at the scenic preserve about 17 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip.
Annual passes will go from $20 to $30. Commercial tour buses will pay $5 per person, up from $2 per person. Motorcycles will pay $3, up from $2.
The BLM says revenue from the fees will pay for improvements at the conservation area.
