LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities say the son of a Las Vegas police officer was hospitalized in critical condition after shooting himself with a handgun at home.
Police released little information Monday about the shooting a little before 11 p.m. Saturday at a home in the rural community of Moapa.
A department public information office statement says the boy was put to bed in his parent's bedroom, where he found the gun in a night stand and shot himself in the arm and abdomen.
Department officials didn't immediately respond to questions about the boy's age; the officer's identity, age and service with the department; whether the officer remains on active duty; and whether the gun was a personal or service weapon.
Department abuse and neglect unit detectives and internal affairs officials are investigating.
