CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The Nevada Pardons Board has denied a pardon sought by Conan Pope, a Las Vegas man who as a teenager iklled his abusive father.

Pope, now 25, served six years in prison on voluntary manslaughter charges for killing his father in January 2000. He was discharged from prison in 2007.

He said he hoped for a pardon so that he could join the military.

Two Supreme Court justices who handled Pope's case were sympathetic. But the board ultimately voted 6-2 Wednesday against a pardon after parole officials said Pope was caught using heroin last year.
