NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) - A judge has bound two former North Las Vegas police officers over for trial in state court on felony charges that one of them beat a man in custody last December and both tried to cover it up.

A North Las Vegas Justice Court clerk said Thursday that Mark Alan Miles and James Balelo (Ball-AY'-oh) were scheduled for arraignment July 30 in Clark County District Court.

Justice of the Peace Natalie Tyrrell ruled Wednesday after viewing a video showing Miles allegedly threatening a 31-year-old California man and throwing him to the ground while the man was handcuffed inside a North Las Vegas casino holding cell.

Miles is charged with oppression under color of office. Both men are charged with false report by a public officer. They were fired in January.
