HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) - The Henderson City Council has voted to hold off on distributing $21 million to an advisory board working to fund a new space and science center.
The council voted 4-0 Tuesday to delay giving the money until later, when it is needed, instead of offering it up front.
It's estimated the advisory board will need to raise $61 million to fund the project.
The council is allowing interest on the money to be used to fund the advisory board.
Mayor Andy Hafen said that while he supports the museum, he has concerns about elected officials losing some control over the money.
The council was revisiting a decision made on June 9, when James
Gibson was mayor and Jack Clark was a councilman. Gibson serves as
the advisory board's volunteer chairman and Clark is the volunteer
vice-chair.
