LAS VEGAS (AP) - Police say a convicted sex offender and former
neighbor has been arrested in the sexual assault slaying of a
7-year-old girl whose body was found in a Las Vegas apartment
complex trash bin on Easter Sunday 1994.

Authorities say detectives used a fingerprint and a DNA sample
to tie 36-year-old Gregory Wallen Jr. to the cold case slaying of
Diana Hernandez at the Sandpiper Apartments several blocks east of
the Las Vegas Strip.

Police arrested Wallen on Monday in the Nye County community of
Pahrump, about 60 miles west of Las Vegas.

Clark County jail records show Wallen is being held pending a
court appearance Wednesday on felony charges of murder and sexual
assault with a victim under 14 years old.
