LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Las Vegas judge assigned the Clark County public defender's office to represent a man accused of shooting a
former Olympic boxer to death in August.
Roger Randolph wasn't asked to enter a plea during a videoconference appearance Monday before Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa.
The judge set a preliminary hearing for Dec. 9.
Prosecutors allege the 26-year-old Randolph shot 31-year-old Rhoshii Wells twice on Aug. 11 after an argument at an apartment complex.
Randolph is being held at the Clark County jail. He's described the shooting as self-defense. He says Wells punched him and robbed him of $100.
Wells was a father of five who won a bronze medal for the United States as a middleweight at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
