LAS VEGAS (AP) - A spokesman for Nevada Rep. Shelley Berkley
says she is in Afghanistan as part of a congressional delegation
visiting military and civilian leaders.

Spokesman David Cherry says the weekend trip is the first for the Democratic congresswoman in the country. He says five other House of Representatives members are on the trip.

Cherry says the group plans to meet with the leaders to discuss
diplomatic efforts as well as challenges facing troops in Afghanistan. He says Berkley also plans to visit a U.S. military hospital.

Berkley is a member of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, and has visited Iraq in the past.
