LAS VEGAS (AP) - Las Vegas police are hoping local students will
help them curb school violence through a new campaign that involves
text messaging and online social networks.
Most local children are expected to return to school next week, and authorities say they plan to launch a new campaign called "Take a Stand." They hope the new approach will result in less school violence.
Part of the campaign involves a new text-message hot line, which
students will be able to use to send anonymous text message tips to
police.
Public service announcements are also expected to be posted on social networking Web sites Facebook and MySpace.
Police say they are taking the new approaches in hopes that more
students will get involved.
